COMMONWEALTH TEAM ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to Breanne Loucks (Wrexham) who has been selected as a member of the GB Commonwealth Team to compete in the Commonwealth Tournament in South Africa. Vale of Glamorgan's Sahra Hassan has been named as first reserve.

Former Welsh Girls' Captain, Sue Turner, will captain the team.

GOLF UNION OF WALES LAUNCHES MIXED FOURSOMES EVENT
In conjunction with sponsors, Ping, the Golf Union of Wales is pleased to announce a new event, the Ping Welsh Mixed Foursomes Team Challenge.

The event is a match play format and affiliated clubs are invited to enter teams of three mixed pairs who will compete initially on a regional basis. Regional winners will progress to the semi-finals and final which will be staged at St Pierre Golf Club on 8th October 2007. In addition, those reaching a regional semi-final will be invited to compete in a Plate event on Finals day.

Information has been sent to clubs and the closing date for entry is Wednesday 11th April 2007.

General Regulations

WLGU AGM

The final Annual General Meeting of the Union took place at Whitchurch (Cardiff) GC on Monday 11 December.

With effect from 01 January 2007 the Union will merge with the Welsh Golfing Union to form the Golf Union of Wales. The current WLGU Executive Committee together with the current Council of the WGU will form the GUW Council. In addition, a Management Committee will be formed comprising three Officers, Dr Phil Dixon (President), Mrs Louise Fleet (Chairman) and Mr Tony Disley (Hon Treasurer), together with five Committee Chairman.

Congratulations to Breanne Loucks (Wrexham GC) on the award of the Carwyn James Award for the Wales Young Sports Personality of the Year.

HALF A MILLION GRASSROOTS LEGACY FROM RYDER CUP

Sports Minister Alun Pugh today unveiled a cash injection of more than half a million pounds for grassroots golf projects in Wales.

The WLGU AGM will be held at Whitchurch (Cardiff) Golf Club on Monday 11th December at 11.00am. All members are invited to attend.

WOMEN'S WORLD AMATEUR TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP - SOUTH AFRICA 18-21 October
Breanne Loucks, Sahra Hassan and Tara Davies are representing Wales in this event. This is the first time the Home Unions have competed as individual nations - previously a team representing GB&I has been entered.

A GREAT SEASON CONTINUES FOR BREANNE

Breanne finished top amateur at the English Ladies' Open (a Ladies' European Tour Event) at Chart Hills at the weekend. She finished 10th overall and capped a wonderful few days by returning the lowest final day round of  68 (-4) which equalled the low round of the event.

Breanne, together with Sahra Hassan and Tara Davies, heads for South Africa tomorrow to represent Wales in the Espirito Santo Tournament (World Amateur Team Championship). Good luck to all three.

BRYN MEADOWS PAIR WIN AUSTRALIAN SPOONS
Returning 37 points the Bryn Meadows partnership of Janet Beckerley and Cerys Jenkins won the Australian Spoons Final at Borth & Ynyslas GC on Saturday 23rd September. Laura Jane Roberts and Jasmin Roberts of Holyhead were in second place with 34 points and Vale of Glamorgan's Denise Gill and Adela Smith third on 33 points.
MORRISTON WIN CENTENARY TROPHY

Justine Williams and Kerry Powell (Morriston GC) returned 45 points to take the Centenary Trophy at Machynys Peninsular G&GC yesterday.  Rhuddlan pair Jennifer Hankinson and Liz Evans, together with Newport's Ceri Waite and Sarah Edworthy tied for 2nd place on 40 points The Runners-Up Trophy, presented to the Union in 2004 by the Ladies' Section of Royal St David's, was awarded to Rhuddlan who returned 22 points on the back nine against Newport's 20 points.

MERGER CONFIRMED

The Officers and Executive Committee of the Union are pleased to announce that, following a positive response to the resolutions put to the Special General Meetings of the Welsh Ladies' Golf Union and the Welsh Golfing Union at Llandrindod Wells today, the two Unions will merge to form the Golf Union of Wales with effect from 1st January 2007.

The Llandudno (Maesdu) Team comprising sisters Kimberley, Hayley and Amy Boulden together with Jane Hallows, Nia Carrington Jones and Janet Barrington overcame Whitchurch (Cardiff) GC in the final of the Welsh Team Championship at Wrexham Golf Club.

The Ladies' Golf Union has announced that Joan Neville, Chairman of the LGU in 1990/91 and of the WLGU 1995-1996, will be proposed as President by the Executive Council of the LGU at the Annual General Meeting in January 2007.

WLGU/WGU PROPOSED MERGER

Regrettably, the Special General Meeting scheduled for Friday, 21st April has been postponed to allow for amendments to be made to the Memorandum & Articles of Association.

Both Unions remain committed to the merger and apologise for any inconvenience the postponement may cause. Members will be advised of the revised date as soon as possible.

STEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

56 teams have entered this year's Championship to be staged at Wrexham Golf Club 19th - 23rd June. The last time Wrexham hosted the Championship was in 1998 when they overcame Pennard in the Final to take the title. They will be hoping to mark the Centenary of the club by repeating the feat this year.

Last year's defeated semi-finalists, Southerndown and Creigiau, find themselves drawn against each other in the 1st Round while holders St Pierre take on Mold and runners-up, Cradoc ,have drawn Fairwood Park.

SLGU ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Following the AGM of the Ladies' Golf Union, staged at the Thistle Hotel, Park Place, Cardiff on Wednesday 18th January, Pam Chugg, Whitchurch (Cardiff) Golf Club has been elected Chairman of the LGU.

Congratulations and best wishes for a successful term of office are extended to her by the Officers and Executive Committee of the WLGU.

WLGU Deputy Councillor, Jenny McGlyne, Cottrell Park GC, will serve as the Union's representative on the LGU Council during the year of Pam's Chairmanship.

SBECKY HARRIES HONOURED

The Daily Telegraph has awarded 17 year old Becky Harries of Haverfordwest GC the Joyce Wethered Trophy. Joyce Wethered won four British Titles between 1922-1929 and the trophy is awarded annually to an emerging young competitor who combines her golf with her education.

Becky is currently studying at Pembrokeshire College where she is undertaking a course in Business & Tourism. She representated Wales in the Girls' Home International Matches  staged at  Worplesdon GC this year winning 4 of her 5 matches. In addition, earlier in the season she turned in some excellent performances in the Welsh Ladies' Close Championship before losing to GB&I Squad member, Stephanie Evans, in the semi-final.

SANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The Union's AGM was staged at Wrexham GC on Monday 28 November. Christine Thomas (Holyhead GC) was elected President of the Union in place of Jill Edwards (Llanishen GC).

Carol Morgan (Morriston GC) was elected to the Executive Committee in place of Louise Fleet (Clyne GC) who has completed her term of office. Margaret Wood (Pyle & Kenfig GC) was co-opted to the Executive Committee in place of Jenny McGlyne (Cottrell Park GC) who will move to represent the Union on the LGU Executive Council when present Councillor, Pam Chugg (Whitchurch (Cardiff) GC), becomes LGU Chairman in January. Val Oxendale (Abersoch GC) was elected unapposed to fill the North vacancy on the Executive Committee.
